A great way to experience this lovely river as it winds its way round the famous Warkworth Castle and down the busy harbour at Amble. You’ll learn about its fascinating history as you explore its changing scenery and wildlife.
It’s also a great way to experience paddlesports for the first time: we’ve got a wide range of canoes and kayaks, including sit-on-tops and double-seaters, to suit all levels of ability and age and our instructors will help you chose the best craft for you.
Tours are timed to make use of the rising tide to take us up river, returning on the ebb, so don’t worry if you aren’t a strong paddler, it isn’t a race!
You will also get tips on canoeing and kayaking skills and safety from our qualified instructors during the tour.

Look out for the bird life: Herons and Little Egrets are common and in early summer you will see Eider and Shelduck duckling creches. Lapwing and Curlew are present and keep your eyes peeled to catch a glimpse of Kingfishers or Goosanders, Otters, deer and seals are sometimes seen as well.
We start at our base at the Braid in Amble where we kit you out with wetsuits, buoyancy aids and suitable craft, then paddle up the river to Warkworth and back. On some trips we stop to have a packed lunch sitting on the river bank. It’s very seldom that anyone falls in the water, but you can always have a hot shower when you return.

We allow 3 ½ hours for your experience. This includes the time taken to get kitted up, approximately 2 hours on the water and changing time at the end. Trips over lunchtime allow for an extra 30 mins.
