Accessibility for all!
There’s no excuse! Anyone and everyone can enjoy being on the water with us – here’s how to experience the freedom that being afloat can give to you
We have been providing watersports activities for people with disabilities for over 30 years.
We are a RYA Sailability Centre, and a British Canoeing Paddle-ability Centre.
Our changing facilities are wheelchair accessible on both of our sites.
Access to the water at the Country Park includes a jetty with a hoist.

We are an RYA Sailability Centre and we have been providing watersports activities for people with disabilities for over 30 years.
Most of our activities take place at Druridge Bay Country Park, on a medium sized lake, but we also use the Coquet Estuary at Amble.
At both venues we have changing facilities which are wheelchair accessible. Access to the water at the Country Park includes a jetty with a hoist.
We have 4 ‘Access’ dinghies which can be used by people with severe mobility problems – they cannot capsize and you sit in a canvas ‘deckchair’ with joystick steering.
We have both solo and 2-person dinghies to enable a carer or instructor to go in with you

Try Canoeing!
We can raft Open Canoes together to create a stable ‘catamaran’, and we have a range of stable sit on top kayaks ( singles and doubles) for the more mobile.
We are very flexible on what we can offer, and we can tailor activities to suit your needs.
Our aim is to provide water sports and water training for everyone in the community – just come and talk to us about how you can get involved.
For those who want to get involved long-term, we have 3 affiliated clubs who welcome everyone as members:
- The Coquet Canoe Club has three wheelchair users at present (two of them are Coaches) and other members with mobility or sensory problems.
- The Sailing Club’s cadet section has had several members on the autistic spectrum over the years.
- The Windsurfing Club is friendly and welcomes all ages, although we don’t have any special equipment for those with mobility problems.
