Coquet island kayak tour

All equipment is provided for all our tours, and we supply long john wetsuits and windproof cagoules for the trip if required though you will need to bring a pair of shoes you don’t mind getting wet.

All our tours are subject to cancellation in the event of adverse weather conditions on the day.

If you cannot find a scheduled tour that is convenient and have a party of 3 or more then please contact us by phone or email and we will do our best to organise for you a date and time that suits.

This tour provides the opportunity to get within proximity of Coquet Island seabird sanctuary with the minimal amount of impact on the nesting birds.  Amongst the highlights, between April and August the island is home to up to 20,000 Puffins, everyone’s favourite! Plus boasts the largest breeding site in the UK of Roseate terns our rarest seabird.

The island is also home to a large colony of grey seals that occupy the island year-round these local seals are very curious and will often approach within a paddle length of the kayaks. If you are lucky then there is the possibility of a chance encounter with dolphins as pods regularly visit the area.

Please note this tour is for experienced kayakers only and requires a good level of fitness to take part.  Landing on the island is not permitted due to the fragile nature of its environment and therefore once we leave the harbour mouth there is no opportunity for getting ashore to rest.   If you are unsure as to whether your ability level is suitable for the tour, please call the office to check prior to booking. Due to the committing nature of this paddle the tour is only available to those 18 and over.

This tour is very weather dependent so dates will normally be advertised at quite short notice when the opportunity presents. Please check the webpage regularly for availability.

Duration approx. 3hrs (including preparation time)

Cost £50 per person

Coquet Sunrise Tour

Early morning over the summer months affords the best chance to be able to approach the island in calmer conditions as the winds are generally lighter before the land heats up. Leaving the Shorebase at daybreak just as nature is waking up provides the best opportunity for those special wildlife encounters as you paddle towards the sun rising in the east over the island. Tea, coffee, and pastries will be supplied on our return to replenish after the journey.

The same conditions apply as for our Coquet Island kayak tour (above) please check with our office if unsure you are at the standard.

Duration approx. 3hrs (including preparation time)

Cost £55 per person
