RYA Powerboat Level 2
The RYA Powerboat course is highly recommended for anyone using a small powerboat. It covers all aspects of safety, boat handling and knowledge of tidal waters, although only at a basic level – there is always more to learn, and further training is a good idea.
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is the standard generally accepted by insurance companies and boat hire firms and can be converted to an International Certificate of Competence for use abroad.
This is a two day course (8 hours per day) and takes place at the Coquet Shorebase on The Braid, Amble, using the Coquet Estuary and the sea out to Coquet Island. No previous experience is necessary, and on completion of the course you should be able to handle a powerboat safely in familiar waters by day, and will be given the certificate for planing craft with coastal endorsement.
The course is taught on our 4.8m Ribcraft RIB, which had a steering console,, but we may also use an Orkney dory with tiller steering
Our courses generally have between two and six participants. They can take place both at weekends and weekdays. (Times and dates depend on the tide times.) Courses run from March through October and are organised to meet demand. We can also offer individual one day training/assessment courses for experienced powerboat handlers.
Costs: 2 day course: £220 per person (minimum 2 people).
1 day 1-1 training/assessment for experienced people only: £260.
Certificates (passport photo needed) and RYA handbooks are included in the price.
